ENTERTAINMENT IN GÖCEK

Göcek mostly caters for yachtsmen and women; consequently there is very little nightlife in the town, apart from one or two very pleasant bars and a music/dance bar. As sailors generally wake early, sail during the day, and sleep early, the most active time in Göcek is between 19.00 and 22.00 hrs, during which time the many bars and restaurants are buzzing with clients. As is usual in most seaside towns there is a delightful esplanade along which you can see and be seen.

There is no public beach in Göcek, but there are many day-tripper boats available to take you to Göcek Island that offers one of the cleanest beaches you will ever have seen. Larger boats (Gullets) offer one-day or longer trips into the unspoiled beautiful bays not far away. It is also possible to charter a private vessel with your family and friends so that you can enjoy the freedom of the turquoise waters at your leisure.
Cars, motorbikes and bicycles are readily available for rent offering you the possibility of exploring the surrounding areas. For instance you could drive to Baba Dað Mountain (47km) and have a unique paragliding experience. The possibilities with your own transport are endless.

SHOPPING IN GÖCEK

As soon as you have settled into your accommodation there can be nothing better to do than to discover the delights that Göcek town offers. With the centre of the town being pedestrian-only during the summer months you are soon away from the noise and stress of modern-day living. Even if you are staying on the outskirts of the town, it is only a short walk to the centre along the highways and byways where you can enjoy looking at the local gardens and seeing the sights and hearing the sounds of everyday life.

When you arrive in the centre, you will see a long street called Turgut Özal Street that offers many outlets for antique and modern carpets and textiles, gifts shops, restaurants, yachting agencies, estate agencies, etc. It is possible to find all your needs in this street.

Famous supermarkets – Tansas, Migros and Bim - have branches in Göcek town, in addition to many smaller family-run markets that offer everything that you will need for either yacht provisioning or self-catering.

Every Sunday sees the local market come to town. It is situated behind the Göcek Primary School and Village Clinic (about 5 mins walk from the centre). Here you will find a good selection of textiles, household goods, clothes, shoes and food all at reasonable prices. You will not want to miss the fresh vegetable and fruit stalls offering locally produced and seasonable goods, nor will you want to miss the banter and bargaining that takes place!

In addition to this there are other weekly markets that you can enjoy and these are found as follows:

Dalaman Market (19 km) Thursdays
Fethiye Market (28 km) Tuesdays
Ortaca Market (30 km) Fridays
Dalyan Market (35 km) Saturdays
Köycegiz Market (45 km) Mondays
Muðla Market (100 km) Thursdays

GÖCEK ACTIVITIES

Boat Trips

Twelve Islands Gullets run daily boat trips to inlets and coves around the bay, leaving around 10.00 each morning and returning around 17.00. The price is 25 YTL per person and includes lunch, fruit and black tea. This is an excellent and relaxing way to visit the many beautiful anchorages and clean beaches.

Another option is to take the shuttle boat that runs hourly between Göcek and the nearby Göcek Island. The departure point is next to the municipal marina office and the cost is 10 YTL. You can also hire yachts privately and make your way with your family or friends to the many beautiful and natural bays around Gocek.

Of course, it is also possible to charter your own private yacht, by the day or week. Many of the local hotels and agencies will arrange this for you. Skippered or bareboat charter is available depending on your level of experience.

Further information, we suggest you look at the Yachting link.

Local Visits

For the adventurous, there are the Lycian rock tombs to explore. These are a short walk away from the village of Inlice. Inlice is 6km away which can be reached by mini-bus or taxi.

Paragliding

Mount Babadağ is part of the Taurus Mountains, located approximately 11km south of Fethiye. Babadağ is 1969 meters high and hosts paragliders from all over the world. How can I go to Rhodes from Göcek?

There are two ways to visit Rhodes from Göcek. One is to take the daily catamaran service from Marmaris, a distance of 103km from Göcek. You can get to Marmaris by car, taxi or the Fethiye-Marmaris minibus. The catamaran leaves Marmaris at 9.30 am from the ferry terminal next to Netsel Marina and you can arrange tickets in advance through a travel agency in Gocek.
The other way is to join the Rhodes tour from Fethiye. Again, your travel agency in Göcek can make the arrangements for you. As this is not a regular tour, we suggest you make early enquiries to check when it is running. Fethiye is 28km from Göcek and can easily be reached by local mini-bus (dolmuş) service. See the Arrival section for a timetable.
The usual visa entry requirements apply so it is best to check in advance if you think you would like to visit Rhodes.
